Woodenware, Tools and Turnings
The woodenware and tools included here are a diverse range of things that I have been making over the years. All of them are in recycled and reclaimed timbers.
Early sideboard handle replacements in Brown Penda, the broken and missing originals were in bakelite.
A fine Cutting gauge in Queensland Rosewood with brass wear plates. Cutting gauges are a woodworking tool used much in the same way as marking gauges. A cutting gauge because it has a small cutter it produces a very fine line.
Wood screw marking gauge in Osage orange. Many years ago I once saw an antique gauge that had been made in this way and it was the only one that I had ever seen. So I quickly made a version of it and was rather impressed with the results.
Traditional Reading stand in Red Bean that disassembles via wooden threads.
Custom made pestle in figured Tallow wood. This pestle has a boarder base and the handle end fits comfortably in the palm.
The Beam Compass is a very useful tool in my shop as well many other workshops and studios. This one is of my own design made in Queensland Rosewood and has a beam length of 540mm.
Wooden door latch in Bloodwood, Blackwood and peach for the threaded knobs.
The Garry Rogers original Nut Cracker in loquat. This cracker will handle macadamias.
Nut crackers some of the timbers here include Loquat, Macadamia and Mulberry.
A variety of traditional wooden hand screw clamps. Loquat, Yellow wood and Kuranda Satinash. Wooden hand screw clamps have been a part of my shop since the beginning. With every possible steel and plastic clamp available to us today these golden oldies are not to be sniffed at. Apart from being a versatile and light weight tool, these delightful wooden clamps are indeed a work of art. All of the wooden threads in these clamps are hand cut in a traditional thread box.
Thread Box, the traditional hand tool used to cut wooden threads. I find that making these tools is quite a challenge to say the least. While the construction of the box is relatively straight forward. Making, sharpening and setting the cutter in exactly the right position or aspect so that you can achieve repeatable and satisfactory results is not always easy. This one is made of Loquat and is a 3/4" 6TPI.
Traditional wooden cabinet knobs and threaded pins, I make these in a variety of sizes and styles.
Turned cabinet foot replacement in recycled Red Cedar, one of the many types of repair jobs that can be done.
Toiled Roll Holder in Red Bean
Contemporary cabinet handles of my own design, these are also fitted as fine drawer pulls.
Letter openers are yet another way to recycle offcuts and shorts. This one was in reclaimed Brazilian Ironwood a beautiful timber that really lives up to its name.
Print stands, this one is in recycled New Guinea Rosewood and breaks down for transport.
'The Jam Drop Hole Maker', for making regular holes in jam drop biscuits.
